Building on the success and feedback from the previous Life-of-Mine Conferences in 2012 and 2014, the AusIMM will host the third in this series during 28-30 September 2016 in Brisbane, Australia
The mining industry is entering a new phase where the need for greater integration, innovation and holistic thinking to develop and operate successful mine sites will replace the approaches and methodologies of the past. Now more than ever the sector is facing increasing cost and production pressures, ever-demanding technical challenges, and increasing societal and community expectations. The Life-of-Mine conference series attracts a broad range of professional disciplines with a diversity of affiliations and views. Contributors from industry, consulting, government and non-government organisations, providers of financial and legal services, civil society, and academe and other research organisations are invited to share experiences, practices and case studies related to the spectrum of planning and sustainability issues embedded in the life and after-life of a mine. As in the previous conferences, international contributors and delegates will be a feature and will offer experiences and examples from a range of other jurisdictions and perspectives.
The conference is organised in collaboration with The University of Queensland’s Centre for Mined Land Rehabilitation (CMLR) at the Sustainable Minerals Institute and, with the additional joint support of The AusIMM’s Southern Queensland Branch and Community and Environment Society, will again provide participants with invaluable points of engagement, interaction and new knowledge.
The overarching conference theme of extracting and processing ore with minimal residual risks, and maximum opportunities created, will continue. Examples and cases studies that apply interdisciplinary approaches to improve outcomes and efficiencies to multidisciplinary challenges will be highlighted in the program. Importantly, we hope that the outcomes from the conference will help see the sector better positioned to face the new norm in the years ahead.
We look forward to seeing you in Brisbane in September for what we’re sure will be a thought-provoking and engaging program.
